There It Is

Production Brief “There It Is” ended up becoming a song about its own creation. The lyric started with the late-night process: writing, generating, breaking things, rebuilding them, adding sounds, taking them away, and chasing that moment when everything finally clicks. I actually had a version of the song far enough along that I had already taken it into Suno Studio and started working on it. Then I left it alone for a day and came back with fresh ears. Almost as an experiment, I dropped the much heavier vocal voice from The Pattern Remains onto the track just to hear what would happen. And that was the moment. There it is. The voice should have seemed completely wrong for the old-school hip-hop direction I had been chasing, but instead it gave the song the grit, attitude, and personality it had been missing. It was one of those production decisions you don't plan. You try something because you're curious, hit play, and immediately know you've found it. That version went back into Studio, where the production started following the lyric itself. During the section about rewinding, tearing things down, and turning them around, I cut part of the drum track and reversed it. A guitar part plays until the line “Pulled that guitar,” where the guitar is cut away. A Rhodes enters on “put a Rhodes in its place.” Later, when the lyric reaches “when to let it breathe,” the Rhodes disappears and the arrangement opens up with it. The song was built the same way the lyric describes the process: add something, remove something, listen again, walk away, come back with fresh ears, try the thing that probably shouldn't work, break it, rebuild it, and eventually recognize the moment when there is nothing left to chase.
